Writing has always been one of my greatest passions-- so I turned it into a career! With a  Slippery Rock University B.S. degree in English Professional Writing, my degree included mastering knowledge in professional writing, technical writing, creative writing, copywriting, editing, and digital writing. I was given a well-rounded education in many aspects of writing, and have been able to combine my natural communication skills and my education to work in the fields I have the most passion for: marketing, social media marketing, advertising, communications, sales, public relations, customer service, graphic design and professional writing.

Writing For the World Wide Web

During the Fall 2014 semester, I took and individual lecture for Writing for the World Wide Web. During the first half of the semester, I took part in primary research for a potential Professional/ Technical Writing MA program called 21st Century Literate Practice Program for Slippery Rock University. In turn, I would produce a Recommendation Report that will hopefully be used to help shape the program. For this project I created a survey to gain insight on what potential students would want from this program. I also learned how to develop a persona in order to understand which students I should be questioning.  By gaining insight of what kind of students were responding to my survey, the recommendation report demonstrates strategies for responding to interpreting, evaluating research. This project also exemplifies the course goals by acquiring and documenting primary research.

Rock Writing

Rock Writing is a student in-house journal at Slippery Rock University. For my contribution to the journal, I was in charge of strategizing various advertising techniques and then executing one.  I also was responsible for designing the advertisement using Adobe InDesign. While in my Advertising and Copywriting course, I was responsible for, I learned excellent strategies of writing and designing advertisements from Luke Sullivan’s ":Hey Whipple, Queeze This!". This experience has displayed knowledge of the writing process by writing slogans and execution strategies. The flyer that was used as the only medium for advertising demonstrate proficiency in document design by its minimalistic design and use of traditional Slippery Rock colors. This experience has also exemplified the program’s goals of gaining knowledge of the English language because of the involved writing process of creating a slogan and a re-branding of Rock Writing.

Technical and Scientific Writing

During the Fall 2014 semester, I completed Technical and Scientific Writing. My class and I were involved in an extensive online student journal. For this project, I was on the design team as well as writing a scientific article thats audience was focused on undergraduate students. I chose to use the website in my portfolio to exemplify the proficiency in document design. This is a scientific online journal and utilizes modern technology with an emphasis on science. I created the whole design of the site using Wix.com, a free website generator. These pieces of work also exemplify scientific and technical writing.
