The Homecoming Project: My Skills Put Toward A Cause

As a Professional Writer, I am constantly in pursuit of keeping content writing a huge part of my professional identity. Since January of 2018, I have been working on a "personal passion project" that came to fruition April 2018.

The Homecoming Project is an online, digital resource dedicated to spreading awareness to missing, abducted, and exploited persons cases with the hopes of reuniting them with their loved ones. The Homecoming Project is designed to share the most up to date case information, bring awareness to current and cold cases, provide my visitors with the best resources to stay informed and get involved, and create an interactive platform where visitors can respectfully share their thoughts and ideas on cases. With the help of social media, interactive discussions platforms, and credible and informative resources, my goals for The Homecoming Project to be a  leading digital and interactive resource for the missing, abducted, and exploited.

My interest in missing persons cases started at a young age when Elizabeth Smart of Salt Lake City, Utah was kidnapped-- I was 10 years old at the time, and the story of her abduction that took place inside her home during the night was widely covered by the media. Although horrified, I was so interested and personally invested in her case. Luckily, 9 months after her disappearance, Elizabeth Smart was reunited with her family. However, I knew Elizabeth's happy ending was not the case for so many abducted children and adults.

After Elizabeth's abduction, I became more interested in missing persons cases, hoping that I could just remember their face or identifying information to spot them and reunite them home-- minor, and futile efforts.

I decided to create The Homecoming Project to not only showcase my professional skills, but also with hopes of making a difference  by spreading awareness to these cases. This project is so personal and close to my heart that I am so proud to showcase it in my professional portfolio!

Website Management

Content Writing/ Editing

The Homecoming Project has given me the opportunity to fully utilize my website creation and management skills. Using Wix website creator, I have created a website from scratch dedicated to spreading awareness to missing, abducted, and exploited persons cases.

As the Creator and Administrator, my job is to keep up to date case information, provide credible resources and citations, connect with social media, analyze SEO and Tracking, running a creative social blog, and conducting all the research for each case.

Content Writing and Editing are very important parts to my project. I must organize and summarize all case information as well as personally edit all of my work. While most of my case information is taken directly from one of my resources and allies, I do take pride in running my own interactive platform blog where I write about various topics relating to missing, abducted, and exploited persons cases.

Social Media

In order to help The Homecoming Project's site to bring in as much possible traffic, I utilize Facebook as my main social platform. I utilize Facebook to garner more local support as well as posting new updates to The Homecoming Project's site.

SEO And Analytics

Although The Homecoming Project is a non-profit, online, digital resource for spreading awareness on missing persons cases and does not receive any funding, I am still able to be conscious of my SEO and Site Traffic  Analytics by using cost-effective tools to  work within my site. SEO and Site Tracking are crucial to the success of The Homecoming project, and I hope to be able to invest more to optimize the results of both SEO and Site Traffic.

Graphic Design

I used my graphic design skills to design the theme of The Homecoming Project. In addition to the website design, I also made my own creative logo.

Community Relations

Part of my job as the Admin and Creator of The Homecoming Project, to have a blog to promote a respectful, interactive platform for my online followers to communicate. It is important that I maintain a relationship with not only my online following, but also my fellow peers that research the same topic. Because of this, I have been able to reach out to a few Youtubers that have given me permission to add their videos to my site.
